About Morton

Located in Tazewell County, Morton real estate is an appealing choice for first-time homebuyers, young professionals, retirees and investors. As a part of the Peoria, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Peoria, Marshall, Stark, Tazewell and Woodford Counties, residents of Morton real estate enjoy a variety of job, recreational and entertainment possibilities. Residents are served by the Morton Community Unit School District 709. The district includes four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school with an enrollment of 2,784 students. There are private schools in Morton – Blessed Sacrament and Bethel Lutheran – both of which are pre-school through the eighth grade. This is a growing community with a population of approximately 17,000.

One of the things that Morton is best known for is the annual Morton Pumpkin Festival. This festival is held the second week in September. It is said that 85% of canned pumpkin in the world is made in Morton. Nicknamed the “Pumpkin Capital of the World” Morton is the location of a Libby’s pumpkin cannery, a Caterpillar distribution facility and the headquarters of Morton Buildings, Inc.

With the location near Peoria, the Peoria Symphony as well as the ballet, the theater, the opera, and the Peoria Zoo are just a few of the choices for entertainment. Residents of Morton, in addition to many others across the county and state attend the annual Heart of Illinois Fair. This is a tradition that started in 1949 and includes rides, concerts, motor contests, livestock competitions and concessions.

The choice of Morton homes for sale also affords residents with a short commute to the downtown Peoria where there are numerous career opportunities including government, corporate, convention, educational and medical facilities. The city’s economy is supported partially by the healthcare profession – another option for people living in nearby communities.
